The fashion weeks are on, which means the opportunity for fortunate designers and brands to showcase their collections for the upcoming fall and winter 2010 season. It used to be more of a closed event for the business but now works like a fashion cirkus, intensely observed and analyzed, both by the press and laymen on the web. But there are also other parts of the fashion cycle that showcases their work this time of the year; the fashion schools! And since the students at the schools need not to think of actually selling their garments yet, the possibilities for thinking outside of the box is of course even more than for actual designers!
The Beckmans College of Design is Sweden’s most prominent design school, well-known for their fashion design programme and their creatively bold students. Beckmans takes part of the Stockholm Fashion Week in February and August every year. The show is always well-visited and much appreciated. Swedish designers as Sandra Backlund, Ann-Sofie Back and Carin Wester has previously been students at Beckmans. To watch the show click here!
One of the most well-reputed school in Europe is the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and especially their Fashion and Textile institution, in London. Saint Martins was established at the end of the 19th century and has since educated some of the brightest shining names in fashion of our times, including Hussein Chalayan, Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane. The schools MA students recently presented their collections at the London Fashion Week.
