Buying a suitcase is not something you do that often, and probably even less often if it’s in turquoise. But these twisted suitcases made by fashion design graduate Sarah Williams is a real incentive to do so. The collection was showcased last week at the London College of Fashion’s presentation. Focus lies on utilizing historical craftmanship and metamorphosising this into something unconventional. The suitcase’s curves resembles the colourful blocks in the classic game Tetris or the melting objects in Salvador Dali’s paintings, creating a surreal feeling to these otherwise so conventional objects. The pieces are handmade, and is either bespoke... Read more or made in a limited edition. For more information and pictures, see the projects website.

Streetstyle blogs are perhaps not the next big thing, altough they
used to be- a couple of years ago. What most of the photographers
realized, was that the random people on the streets, was never as
faboluous as the people visiting the fashion weeks. A swarm of
bloggers and photographers follow the happy few who are part of the
fashion scene in each city while walking between shows, taking cabs or
smoking cigarettes. The outfits exposed are often utopian in a sense,
and probably seldom worn outside of the events. And of course, walking
in 10 inch heels is not that much fun on a daily basis, but... Read more it might
be worth it if someone takes photos of you wearing them and publishes
them.
The street blogs also has a different value for us living in the north
of Europe. Watching photos of people showing some skin, dressing in
light colours and wearing impractical shoes- it gives us hope that the
sun hopefully will shine on us this spring also(!) although the
weather outside is still rather cold up here.

The story took a strange turn last Saturday when the management of PUB (the department store where our physical store is located) took the decision to remove the jeans from the shelves. We are now working to find a new, temporary space, for the jeans.
Some media coverage:
Washington Post
The Guardian.co.uk.

Get a fascinating and intimate insight into one of the most creative fashion houses ever, Maison Martin Margiela. In the spirit of Margiela’s garments, the book is a work of art in itself, designed exclusively by Margiela and complete with silver inks, ribbon markers, a variety of lush paper types, twelve booklets, and an embroidered white-linen cover.
Graduating from Antwerp’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980, Martin Margiela (and the Antwerp Six) transformed global fashion with his aggressive restatement of traditional fashion design and a polemical approach to luxury trends. Working first with the house of Gaultier, Margiela absorbed... Read more the radical design of Japanese deconstruction, making it wholly his own with the founding of his own label in 1988. Margiela propounds a singular, enigmatic look, moving beyond the recognizable tropes of deconstruction—a monochromatic palette, outsized garments, non-traditional fabrics, exposed seams, or roughly appliquéd details—to develop a fully considered worldview, one with elegance, mystery, and menace in equal measure.
