Introducing Poetry Is Growing in Our Garden, the first volume of winemaker Anders Frederik Steen’s notes on wine-making and wine-drinking, now back in print after becoming an Apartamento bestseller. One of the cult figures of the natural wine world, Steen began his career as a sommelier in Copenhagen, first at Noma and later as a co-founder of the restaurants Relæ and Manfreds, before turning to winemaking in southern France in 2013. Over eight years, he filled notebooks with reflections on taste, the nature of wine, the technical intricacies of his craft, and the transition from restaurant life to becoming a winemaker.

What begins as a collection of notes on wine develops into a more personal exploration of learning, doubt, and the formation of a practice. Moving between practical observations and philosophical musings, Steen considers the balance between manual skill and abstract thought in winemaking. The book opens with a foreword by French chef Pierre Jancou, whose restaurants helped reshape Parisian dining through exceptional cooking and a focus on wines without added sulphites. The remainder consists of Steen’s day-to-day notes, together forming a portrait of a winemaker in constant evolution.
